AEMO Q3 Quarterly Energy Dynamics webinar

The Melbourne Energy Institute is pleased to host Paul Austin from the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) as he presents findings from AEMO's latest Quarterly Energy Dynamics (QED) report. The QED report covers the period 01 July to 30 September 2021.

Q3 started with a continuation of the volatile energy prices experienced at the end of Q2, but these returned to lower levels by the end of the quarter. This was in contrast to the international energy price trend which climbed throughout the quarter, reaching record levels for coal and LNG. Renewable energy continued to reach new highs with record instantaneous penetration and record levels of negative prices.

Paul Austin is the Group Manager Market Insights at the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) and his role covers all aspects of energy markets from market operations, to production of the Quarterly Energy Dynamics report, to working with the Energy Security Board on market reform.

Prior to joining AEMO Paul held a variety of wholesale and retail market roles at EnergyAustralia and AGL, extending back to the commencement of the electricity and gas markets.

He is a mathematician by training, and holds a Masters from the London School of Economics and an MBA from Melbourne Business School.
