Steve Rieniets

Steve Rieniets is an Advisor to the Melbourne Energy Institute Advisory Board at the University of Melbourne. He has more than 30 years’ experience across Australia’s energy and resources sectors, including senior executive roles at AGL Energy, where he led large-scale electricity generation operations and major infrastructure programs.

Through his role on the Advisory Board, Steve contributes industry insight to support interdisciplinary energy research, strengthen collaboration between academia, industry and government, and provide strategic perspectives on the operational, market and policy challenges shaping Australia’s energy transition.

Steve is currently Chair of VicGrid and a former non-executive director of South Gippsland Water. He holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Civil Engineering, and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. His professional interests include energy system transformation, infrastructure development, and regional engagement in the transition to a low-emissions energy system.
