ABOUT

On 2 May 2024, the Melbourne Energy Institute hosted our first seminar in the MEInetwork24 series. Chris Mock, Manager – Engineering Strategy at AEMO, presented an overview of the electricity system, from generation to customer.

Australia’s large-scale power systems are moving rapidly away from their traditional dependence on coal generation, transitioning toward renewable energy sources that take advantage of our abundant wind, solar, and hydro resources. This transition will profoundly impact the design, operation, and regulation of the power system at all scales, from the largest generators to individual households.

This presentation provided an overview of the full electricity system value chain from an engineering perspective, and focused on the transition toward the first periods of operation at 100% instantaneous penetration of renewables in the National Electricity Market.
