The Melbourne Energy Institute was pleased to host Mr Kevin Ly, Group Manager for Reform Development and Insights from the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), on 17 May as he presented findings from AEMO’s Q1 2022 Quarterly Energy Dynamics (QED) report, covering dynamics, trends and outcomes in Australia’s electricity and gas markets in the period 1 January to 31 March 2022. Discussion was led by Mr Kevin Ly and moderated by MEI’s Energy Systems Program Leader, Professor Pierluigi Mancarella.

The latest QED report tracks the rebound in wholesale electricity prices in the National Electricity Market (NEM) and east coast gas prices following a very mild Q1 last year, a new maximum demand record in Queensland, continued growth in renewable generation, and the impacts of warm temperatures in Western Australia’s Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM).

The seminar was hosted as a hybrid event, simultaneously delivered in person and streamed online.
