The Melbourne Energy Institute was pleased to host Paul Austin, Group Manager Market Insights at the Australian Energy Market Operator, for a webinar to discuss key findings from AEMO's Q3 Quarterly Energy Dynamics (QED) report. The detailed report can be accessed on the AEMO website.
Quarter 3, covering the period 1 July to 30 September 2021, started with a continuation of the volatile energy prices experienced at the end of quarter 2, but these returned to lower levels by the end of the quarter. This was in contrast to the international energy price trend which climbed throughout the quarter, reaching record levels for coal and LNG. Renewable energy continued to reach new highs with record instantaneous penetration and record levels of negative prices.
